One of 'those' phone calls

You know the phone call that you get in the middle of the night, wee hours of morning or just an off time  from someone?  Well, I got that call this morning from my dad & knew it was bad news, but just thought maybe he had relapsed with the stomach virus.  My Aunt Joyce, dad's sister, passed away last night unexpectedly.  She's been in the rehab part of the nursing home for a while & dad visits her almost daily.  Unfortunately, last week he had the virus so we were unable to go visit.  We had talked about going last Friday if he was better, but he wasn't.  He had planned to go today...  Please keep our family in your thoughts & prayers.

Build A Bear

We took a trip to Build A Bear since our sweet friend Casey gave us her coupon for a free animal!  Don't tell Avery though!  I'm sure she would be upset with her mom if she found out!

Addy's first trip to BAB was when she was about 9 months old.  She picked out a monkey.

This time she chose a Love Bug aka ladybug.  At first we thought she was going to choose the Love Bear.  I wish I would have brought my camera!  Build A Bear lighting & the iPhone make icky color pictures :(

Waiting to get Buggy stuffed!
Helping stuff Buggy!

In between stuffing & fluffing I attempted to take a video - then Alyssa totally lost her mind for some reason.  I think maybe because she was facing outward in the Baby Bjorn & couldn't see me.

Fluffing Buggy!
All set!
Time to print Buggy's birth certificate!
She wasn't too sure about Buggy being in the box!
Are you in there Buggy?!?!
Let's go!

We couldn't get out of there with just a FREE animal, so Blake found Monkey a shirt!

Birthday Party, Stomach Virus, Oh My!

We just returned from an eventful week in Louisiana!

Friday - arrived

Saturday - Avery's birthday party & dinner with friends.  Addy loves the big sandbox at the child museum.  She played in it the whole time!  I'm thinking a sand/water table will make a great birthday present!
Sunday - lazy day

Monday - Spent the day with mom & girls - that night mom got stomach virus

Tuesday - I woke up feeling sick & found out mom was sick....this can't be happening

Wednesday - Dad is sick, I feel better.  Addy & I had a dentist appointment today, as well as, an eye appointment for me.  Needless to say, they had to be cancelled, because there isn't anyone able to help with the girls. I wasn't able to reschedule our dentist appointment for this week, but did get another eye appointment at 7:40 Friday morning.  I'm sure I'll regret an early appointment, but I've got to get my eyes checked!

Thursday - Mastitis - my fault!  I forgot to take my antibiotic when we came to Louisiana on Saturday & didn't bother to start back when I remembered.  Luckily, my OB's office is understanding & called in more medicine for me.

Friday - Mom isn't better, dad isn't better.  My sister was able to go with me & the girls to the eye doctor!  I picked her up at 6:45am & we were on our way.  The morning went much smoother than I anticipated and the doctor visit was fast & painless! Alyssa didn't have a meltdown until I was checking out.  Addison was great as usual.  She's always awesome when we go places!  Oh, my vision has only changed slightly!  Yay for getting older!

Blake came and picked us up Friday afternoon.  It was a long drive from Texas & back, but we can't afford for him to get the stomach bug that's going around.  I know we may be carrying it, but the less exposure - the better!!  It was a rough ride home.  We usually avoid driving after dark because Alyssa turns into a grumpy baby after 6pm!  Seriously, I don't caa it the Witching Hour for no reason!  I thought the learning cup would save the day, so I was sure to pump before we left dads.  Well, she was not interested in that nasty cup!  Anyway, my poor little angel cried herself to sleep in the carseat.  We had already stopped twice in less than an hour for me to nurse/console her & just couldn't keep stopping!  It.was.awful!  I did the best I could to soothe her!  I sang to her, stroked her head, etc.  It wasn't like I just ignored her while she cried.  I feel horrible that I couldn't scoop her up to comfort her!  I'll probably have nightmares of her crying now!

Addison & Alyssa 2 months old

Alyssa is 6 Months Old

1/2 way to ONE year!  Holy Smokes!  Where did the last 6 months go?  I'd like them back please or at least put time in slow motion.

Here are Alyssa's stats from her well-visit yesterday -
16.5 pounds (50th percentile)
24 inches (10th percentile)

She got 3 shots: Pentacel (DTaP, Hib, IPV), Pneumococcal, Flu.  Her last dose of Rotavirus was also given this morning.  In one month we go back for the 2nd dose of flu vaccine.  This time wasn't as bad as the 4 month shots.  Alyssa cried for a minute & then I nursed her to sleep.  Last night, I woke up & Alyssa was burning up with fever!  Great!  I'm praying this is simply a side effect from the nasty vaccines from yesterday & not a bug that she picked up somewhere!  I started dosing her with Tylenol & ibuprofen every 4-6 hours.  If her fever keeps coming back by this afternoon, I'll call the pediatrician.

Alyssa:
*is sitting without assistance for a minute or two at a time
*has 2 bottom teeth
*screams when a toy is out of reach or taken from her
*still poops every 7-10 days
*sleeps better than Addison
*eats solids in addition to being breastfed

No, I don't like peas or green beans!

Alyssa loves pears, bananas, sweet potatoes BUT not peas or green beans!  She literally gags on every bite & scares me!  Maybe I can catch it on video at dinner tonight.

We have another tooth peeking through today!  I forgot how quickly one comes right behind the other.  There seems to be a lot of things that I've 'forgotten' in just a short time since Addy was a baby.  Like feeding solids...Do I nurse before or after the solids?  When does she move up to 3 solids a day?  How much should she eat at each solid feeding?  Is she going to choke?  Yes, I'm insane!  LOL  Now I wish I would have blogged in more detail about things like this!

Addison

Addison was tuning me out when I was trying to get a picture of her, as usual!  She's our little parrot around the house.  Seriously, there's an echo every time we say something!  Not just us, the TV too.  No more Jersey Shore or Real Housewives while she's in the room!  Usually, I try to catch up on my DVR shows when both girls are napping or at least Addy.

Convertible Car Seat

It won't be long until Alyssa gets moved from her infant seat to a convertible seat.  I really want Addy & Alyssa to have the same seat style/pattern (because I'm shallow like that).  Of course, Addy's pattern has been discontinued & the seat itself is being phased out because they are now making them to hold up to 70 pounds instead of 65 pounds.  Blake reminded me that covers are available for the seats, so we could still get the same style & then get 2 matching covers!  Luckily, we found the seat style like Addy's & now trying to decide on the covers.
