Addy's MDO Program

I think the videos say it all!  Click HERE for the first video & HERE for the second video.

Alyssa is 10 months old

Alyssa is on the move & into everything.  She's crawling & cruising & climbing.  I'm so excited each day to watch her grow & learn.  It's awesome that I get to be here with both of my girls & not miss a thing.  I'm thankful for this opportunity & know just how blessed we all are.

Alyssa's favorite cartoon is Mickey Mouse.  She likes Dora too, but not nearly as much as Mickey!  She dances & claps when it comes on.  Click HERE for a video!

Alyssa's favorite food is anything, except yogurt.  She still isn't a fan.  I'll keep trying though!

April showers bring May flowers.  Here's a happy flower & a not-so happy flower!  I never know what expression Addison is going to give me when I get the camera.

I thought this picture was hilarious.  Addy was making a break for it & Alyssa was looking for something to put in her mouth.  Although, it looks like a perfectly coordinated pose!

Addison loves the camera as always!  NOT!

Happy Birthday, Blake!

We celebrated Blake's birthday last weekend!  For just a few weeks he's only 6 years younger than me!  The day started with yummy Starbucks coffeee & breakfast complete with cake pops!  We had talked about going to dinner & leaving the girls with a sitter.  Addison loves Kacy, so we knew she wouldn't be a problem, but Alyssa...  I picked Kacy up a little early to see if Alyssa would warm up to her after being around her for a bit.  Alyssa clung to me like someone was about to rip her from my arms, so ended up taking her to dinner with us.  I think over the summer I'll have Kacy come over more often, so Alyssa will get used to her since she will be in Kacy's class this fall.

After dinner we came home & ate the most delicious DQ Ice Cream Cake ever!  Yes, that's a votive candle (Blake's idea)!  The bottom layer is choclate, middle is cookie crumble fudge mix, then vanilla on outer part.

She loves twirling in this tutu dress from Aunt Katie!

Details

There are so many things that I wish I would've blogged about in more detail in the past!  So, I'm starting today!

Alyssa is 10 months old & still sleeps in our bed.  Once she turns a year old & I stop nursing she will be moved to the crib.  She is eating mostly purees, but occasionally I give her table food.  She hates yogurt.  I try to give her some every day when Addy eats hers, but she makes an awful face & spits it out!

For the past week, every morning when I go in the kitchen to fix Addy pancakes, Alyssa crawls in there ready for her pancakes too.  She loves them!  She also loves Buddy's bowls that she just recently noticed!

She has started waving & saying bye-bye.  She said 'bubba' the other day when she saw him walking down the hall.  She says mama & dada too.

Blake reads to Addy every night at bedtime.  That is their special time & they both enjoy it so much.  I read to Alyssa a couple of nights a week.  It just depends on how sleepy she is.  I wonder if one day we will read to both of them together at bedtime.  Hmmm...

Lately, Addy has decided to close Buddy in the closet.  He spends a lot of time there to get away from the chaos.  The other day Addy was sitting on the floor playing when she proudly announced that she closed the closet door so Buddy wouldn't come out!  UGH!  I ran back to check on him because I knew it had been a while since I saw him.  He just rolls with whatever these girls throw at him.  From chasing to pulling hair, to putting blankets on his head.  Bless his heart.

Addy still goes to MDO twice a week.  Unfortunately, she doesn't nap there.  She waits until she gets home & then goes right to sleep after her snack.  Some days I feel like we spend no time together because she goes to school at 9 then comes home & naps until 5ish.  Bedtime is 8, so there are only a couple of hours in between filled with dinner & baths.  I suppose this is what parents who work outside the home deal with everyday.

Right now the Mississippi River is flooding due to ice melting & rain.  The river is reaching historic levels not seen since the 1920's & 1930's.  I'm pretty certain this will be included in future history books. You can also 'Google' or whatever the next great search engine will be for the Internet.

Addy & Maggie

Maggie is in town right now for a couple of weeks.  Her & Addy have been spending a lot of time together.  Maggie is going to MDO as a drop-in while they are home, so they play there & then we have playdates at our house.  Maggie & her family will be leaving again this weekend & we are going to miss them.

Church

We survived our first church visit with both girls!  Addison has been twice & we always talked about going, but it's easy to find excuses not to go.  It wasn't that we didn't WANT to go, but B & I were just scared to take the girls.  We know that people take babies to church all.the.time, but hated to be 'those' people with the crying babies.  The church setup is odd to me.  The Cry Room is off to the side of the building in the middle of the church.  So, if you go to the room & have to leave for whatever reason, you have to walk past half the pews to get out of the building.  We decided not to sit in the Cry Room & just sit on the very back row, since we really didn't know what to expect from the girls.  This morning there were quite a few crying babies, not in the Cry Room & I could totally empathize with those parents.  You know, I don't think there were any babies in the Cry Room.  Today the church celebrated it's First Communion in 2 years.  There were about 10-12 kids.  All of the little girls looked like mini-brides with flowing white dresses & delicate veils, complete with tiaras!  Beautiful little princesses.  I didn't realize it was such a formal affair.

Since the church is a block from our house we put the girls in the stroller & walked down the street.  Next time I'll wear flip-flops & carry my heels!  OUCH!  Oh, most importantly, Addison & Alyssa did GREAT this morning!  Especially for the first time!  Addison played games on the phone & Alyssa smiled & babbled at everyone.  She also ate 263 puffs!  LOL!  I know that next week it could be a complete disaster, but now I'm much more comfortable taking them!

NICU Party

Addison recently got an invitation in the mail for a party to celebrate all of the NICU babies.  I wish it would've arrived earlier!  Since we just made a trip home there was NO way to turn right around & do it again the following weekend.  Maybe next year...

Addison was in the NICU for 6 measly long days.  That was nothing compared to the preemie babies, like Avery, who stayed for almost 2 months in the NICU.  I remember clearly, all the trips back & forth to the NICU.  The same routine every.singe.time.  Buzz in, wash hands, put on the raggedy yellow gown, gloves & sometimes a mask.

\
Once Addy started getting better we never knew what we were going to walk in & find.  The wonderful nurses took such good care of all the babies.

Those 6 days were traumatic enough without truly knowing the seriousness of Addison's situation.  I didn't know just how serious until the last day - right before she was discharged.

We now have a happy, healthy 3 year old that fills our days with joy & laughter!

Houston Zoo

We took a trip to the Houston Zoo & had a blast!

The weather was perfect & the girls too!  On the way there Alyssa cried, but that was part my fault.  She's teething & I forgot to give her ibuprofen before leaving the house.  We found a store on the way & bought some ibuprofen & also saved some money by purchasing our zoo tickets in advance.  Once we arrived at the zoo, parking was a nightmare!  The website states to arrive early since parking is limited.  Uh, limited isn't the word I would use to describe the parking disaster!  We got lucky after a few minutes & scored a fairly decent parking spot.  As soon as you walk in the zoo, a photographer takes your picture & gives you a ticket to claim the photo if you want to purchase it.  Ours didn't turn out great, so we passed this time.  The zoo was very nice.  I didn't know that you could take ice chests inside the zoo.  Everyone had an ice chest & brought there own lunch & snack items.  We ate at the overpriced cafe & the people beside us were making sandwiches with food from their ice chest.  We spent $25 for lunch on chicken strips, fries, chicken wrap & coke.  They spent $10 & fed a family of 5!  We will remember that next time!

Addison's favorite animals were the meerkats, gazelles, otters, seals, elephants & monkeys.  We all look forward to going back very soon!

Addy didn't nap until we left the zoo, but Alyssa couldn't wait.  It's hard work being a baby at the zoo!

I've read about the Nanny Caddy vending machine, but this was the first time seeing it in person!  I'm sure people though I was nuts for taking a picture of it, but HOW COOL IS THIS?!?!?!  It has everything from a nursing cover to a pacifier!  Seriously!  Someone is RICH!

Alyssa's Playdate

**BLOGGER HAS BEEN DOWN, so I have some catching up to do!  If you haven't been getting the automatic update emails, you may have missed some posts.  You can see the full blog by clicking HERE or scroll to the bottom of your automatic update email & click on Curran News**

Around the time I got pregnant with Alyssa an old friend & I reconnected via Facebook.  Just a couple of weeks later she found out she was pregnant too.  CC & I went to jr high & high school together, but grew apart/lost touch soon after.  She already had a little boy who was 11 years old & had been trying for another baby for years.  Funny how life works...  We stayed in touch, but kept missing each other every trip home!  Finally, last week we met up & our baby girls met for the first time.  Her little girl is Alyssa Isabella!  No, we didn't know that both our girls were being named Alyssa until everyone else was told!  CC calls her baby Bella, so there will never be anyone confusion when we are yelling at one of them :)

Falling Behind

I've been doing really well with keeping up with the blog, until last week!  Since the blog will be printed into a 'baby' book - one day, I try to stay on top of it.  We just returned from a trip home & my dad doesn't have Internet *GASP*, so there's no way for me to post while at his house.  We had a wonderful trip home  & got to see some old friends (not necessarily old as in age, but meaning friends for a long time)!

Last week, Addy & I had a dentist appointment that was long overdue.  We were supposed to go back in February while home, but the stomach virus attacked the household & we had to cancel.  Addy did really well!  This was her 3rd trip to the dentist.  She really liked the hygienist & got a prize after the exam.

Buddy has decided that he's too good to lay on the ground!  Now he plops down on the picnic table!  Silly dog!

We celebrated the Royal Wedding along with everyone else in the world.  I was more into it than the girls, but I forced them to watch it!
My Princesses

Who says you need rain to wear rainboots?

Our matching TOMS shoes!

When Addison outgrew the Crawl & Cruise Jungle a long time ago we took it to mom's house for Logan & any other babies that came along.  Alyssa loved it as soon as she saw it!  I need to make a list of our all-time greatest baby purchases.  The Crawl & Cruise Jungle is one of them!

To be continued...
