POOP DAY!!
Alyssa hasn't pooped since last Sunday & each day I've been on the edge of my seat waiting for a poopy diaper. Over the weekend I really started to worry even though I've read that it's not uncommon for a breastfed baby to go up to a week without pooping (this was NEVER the case with Addison). It just means her little body is more efficient at absorbing the breast milk. I went to bed last night prepared to wake up this morning & call the pediatrician! Well, hallelujah, this morning I was about to change her diaper & heard some wonderful noises going on inside! YAY! POOP! So, I let her finish, but she wasn't finished. Two diapers later & 100 wipes, I am thrilled that she pooped!

Trip Home and Lots of Pictures and Random
**I've been trying to finish this blog since Monday**
We had a great trip home last weekend & saw some great friends & family! There was a little 'Welcome Baby Alyssa' party Saturday for everyone to come over & meet Alyssa & eat some Johnny's Pizza!
Baby Isa found her THUMB! I'm praying that she continues to use it for soothing herself.
I had my 6 week check-up today (no more Golden Oreos or Chocolate Xtreme Blizzards for ME)! At my 3 week check-up the dr was caught in surgery, so we had to reschedule. Kaci kept Addy & Isa went with me. I was praying the whole time that she would just let me get through the appointment & then she could wake up & scream her head off. Well, she slept right up until the dr came in the room! LOL They are apparently used to that happening because it didn't bother them at all. They all enjoyed seeing her - sleeping or crying. Luckily, I was able to calm her long enough to chat with the dr.

Mom insisted there be a cake!
I'm confident that my attempt at a backyard photo shoot would have turned out fantastic had the subject been more cooperative! The outfit Isa has on is the same one that Addy wore home from the hospital. I thought it would be sweet to have pictures of both of them wearing it. I'll try again soon (if she hasn't grown out of it already). Isa is really growing at a rapid speed. My breast milk is super powerful & super awesome (if it isn't in a bottle)!

Alyssa is ONE MONTH old
Where did a WHOLE month go? Yesterday, Alyssa had her one month well-visit. She is doing great & is a chunky monkey weighing in at 9.12lbs & 21inches! That's comparable to where Addison was at this age also. She got her 2nd Hep B vaccine too.
Last weekend we took Addison to see Storytime Live in Houston. She had the best time & never took her eyes off the stage! It was so much fun watching her watch the play. Her favorites were Wonder Pets & Dora, but she really enjoyed them all. Alyssa did too! She slept the whole time!
Blake & I didn't realize that Addison was in 'teething hell' until we got to Houston (without teething medicine)! Her 2 year molars are coming in on the bottom now & her hand was in her mouth all day!

Who knew there would be a line to take a picture in front of a silly poster? Yes, we stood in line to take a picture in front of the silly poster!

We got front row seats & they were great, but next time we'll get 3rd row. Addison didn't even sit in her seat because she couldn't see all the way on the stage. Blake & I took turns with her in our laps & it worked out just fine.

Nursery Painting
Look what my neighbor's mom-in-law made for Alyssa! The bottom painting of the monkey is one that we got for the nursery before Addison was born. Well, Angela asked for a wall hanging out of the nursery & said her mom-in-law was going to make something for baby Alyssa, but needed colors, etc, so I gave her the monkey painting. Oh my goodness....she brought over the top painting with Alyssa's name on it yesterday & I was blown away! It's beautiful & matches perfect! Such talent!

Baths, Diapers & Molars, Oh My!
Alyssa had her first bath and she loved it! I think she would have liked it more if the sling was in it, but mommy doesn't know where she put it :( We may just buy a new tub because I really feel more comfortable with the sling since she is still so tiny. Speaking of tiny - she has outgrown her newborn diapers, but can't quite fit comfortably in a size 1. There should really be an in-between size :)

We finally got Alyssa's newborn pictures done today. Well, I guess they can't really be called newborn since she is almost ONE month old! Our wonderful photographer, Ashley Nicholson, came to our house today for the session. She got some great shots & I'm so excited to see the proofs! Here's one I took with my phone:
No, it isn't Halloween yet, but the way Addy looks in this picture would have you think otherwise! 1) It was pajama day, so that explains the monkey jammies. 2) The sun was shining really bright, so that explains the sunglasses & hat. 3) The mosquitoes are T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E & when Addy goes outside now she has to wear her 'outside uniform', so that explains the pink jacket (you can't see that she had on pants too). Seriously, we've yet to find a bug spray that mosquitoes AREN'T attracted to around here!

Addison is getting her 2 year molars right now. Both have broken through the skin on top, so hopefully she will get a break from the teething pain (until the bottom ones come through)!
iPhones are very popular at our house & these kids take their games seriously!
Priceless!!

Rewind & Mastitis
Let me step back for a moment & talk about some things I've missed blogging about. Grams came to visit us the month of July. It worked out perfectly (for me anyway) that she was here 2 weeks before I delivered & 2 weeks after. The last 2 weeks I was pregnant were a struggle & then I couldn't pick up Addy until my 3 week check-up. Memaw came to stay when Grams left. Unfortunately, her visit was cut short because of a death in the family. She left Tuesday afternoon. Before she left she had started cooking dinner. There were butter beans on the stove & she told me they would be ready in about 30 minutes. Okay, no problem. Wrong! There was a problem.... Addison had to go potty & Alyssa was screaming. The beans were forgotten about & destroyed! LOL. On my own for less than an hour! I'm so thankful that I had all of the help I did. It amazes me how I hear people talking about they had no help or declined offers for help. I'm not TOO proud to ask for help or happily accept it! I've only been on my own the last 2 days & even though I've been sick it hasn't been bad at all. Addison is watching WAY too much Nick Jr & Alyssa sleeps all the time.
Tuesday I noticed my right breast was achey & engorged. First thing I thought about was mastitis! I had mastitis when I nursed Addison & she was about 6 weeks old. However, this must be the new & improved 2010 version of mastitis, because I don't recall this type of pain! Since I had my check-up on Thursday I decided I would just wait & get antibiotics then. Never again! I will never, ever, never wait again. If this ever happens again I will call the dr same day & get some medicine. At my check-up yesterday the OB got stuck in surgery, so everyone had to reschedule. Luckily, I was able to talk to the nurse (the ONLY person there that I actually like) & she called me in some antibiotics. I started taking the medicine right away like I was supposed to. About 10:30pm I was having chills & felt terrible. Blake checked my temp & it was between 102 & 103. I took some Tylenol right away & the fever broke about an hour later. UGH! This morning I called the nurse to tell her about last night & she said if I'm not MUCH better by Monday to let her know & I would need a stronger antibiotic. I hope it doesn't come to that since I would have to quit nursing & pump/dump until it's out of my system.

I wish DQ wasn't less than a mile from our house!

Iris Coloboma
This morning we visited Texas Children's Hospital for Alyssa to see the pediatric ophthalmologist. The nurse did her evaluation first & made notes for the doctor to review. As soon as she saw Alyssa's eye she said it was coloboma. Later the doctor came in & dilated Alyssa's eyes. She was such a good girl the whole time we were there. Probably because she's 3 weeks old & sleeps all the time!
The doctor examined Alyssa's eyes & diagnosed her with iris coloboma. This type of coloboma may be in one eye (unilateral) or in both eyes (bilateral). The pupil is often described as an upside-down pear shape when an individual has an iris coloboma. Alyssa only has it in her left eye. The doctor said it won't impair Alyssa's vision, maybe just sensitivity to light. She did see that one eye was slightly near-sighted & the other far-sighted, however, she doesn't rely too much on seeing that while the eyes are dilated. We will be going back in November for another examination. If the eyes are still showing a difference in vision then glasses may be prescribed so that one eye doesn't work harder than the other.
